Project: LBMMC Antepartum LDR
Role & Responsibilities: Principal in Charge, Programming lead, Planning lead and primary client contact
Healthcare is a competitive marketplace, and when choices need to be made you want your organization at the top of the list. The Antepartum LDR at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center needed a refresh to respond to current market demands. Key elements addressed during this process were:
- A secluded antepartum unit – separated from the birthing area
- Sensory sensitivities
- Finishes inspired by a high-end hospitality experience with a home-like appeal
As a husband and father, I understand the importance of making decisions in Antepartum LDR spaces from a woman’s perspective. It is critical to absorb and understand their specific issues and sensitivities--such as smells, views and sounds--in this special environment. This project allowed us to create a state-of-the-art Antepartum LDR at LBMMC by addressing many of these obstacles and sensitivities.
Work shown in this project was done while Rick Savely was employed with another architectural firm.
